The smart form works best if you download the file and then open it in Adobe Acrobat. In most browsers this is done by right clicking the file link and selecting 'save link as...'.

When Using the Chrome Browser

Chrome has it's own PDF reader that opens within the browser. Although in most occasions this is convenient, but it does have drawbacks when dealing with PDFs you fill in.

If you hit the “Save” button in the toolbar, it will just save the blank original PDF without the text you entered. To save the text, you need to again hit the Print option, choose ‘Save as PDF’ in the Destination and click Save to download the filled out form (see image below). Saving the PDF in this manner will not allow you to edit it in the future.
