Cromwell Bike Park – A Fantastic Community Asset
8 Apr 2016
Planning for the Cromwell Bike Park began five years ago and had the odd setback along the way. The fundraising took longer than anticipated and regrettably ‘red tape’ slowed down the process. Committee secretary Vivienne Wilkinson said it had been a hard process fighting for the park.
However, this did not phase or deter members of the Cromwell Bike Park committee and wider community supporters who continued to work hard to ensure the project was a success. Now thanks to years of fundraising and the generous donations of a variety of organisations, including the Otago Community Trust - Cromwell has a wonderful community asset.
The tracks are of varying difficulty, from a paved learn-to-ride area with street signs and intersections up to a jump loop. Children have a dedicated area with a learn-to-ride section that caters for beginning bike riders and this takes them through different stages assisting them with their riding skills.
The Cromwell Bike Park provides a healthy, fun outdoor activity for all ages - promoting healthy lifestyle choices for the whole family, allowing riding skills to be taught in a safe environment. Not only that, it is an attraction for visitors to Cromwell and Central Otago.
An official opening is being planned for the spring, when all the plantings and grass around the park have been established.
