Challenge Wanaka, a major triathlon event in New Zealand, is hugely important for the region, bringing in over $4 million of economic benefit and generating a strong sports tourism profile in international media around the world. It's also important in encouraging an active and healthy lifestyle and gives back to the community financially by supporting local charitable groups.
The Otago Community Trust's financial support of the Challenge Wanaka Sports Trust not only enhances the volunteer and athlete experience, but also helps ensure that this valuable event continues to have a strong footing. This year the event is set to be the biggest yet, having grown from less than 200 in 2007 to now feature over 1,500 triathletes from 20 nations. The support of the Otago Community Trust has played a important role in creating this success story.
